Alumni Update
Added: 10/18/06

Hello, my name is Jason Green and I am the newly elected Sage of Zeta Omicron chapter for this fall semester.  I am a senior mechanical engineer graduating this upcoming May 2007 and have been involved heavily since fall 2004.
This upcoming semester is going to be the start of a phenomenal year as we have many new goals and even more ways to positively influence our campus.  Sigma Pi has been helping greatly with becoming heavily involved on campus, including helping with a huge concert and comedian event that Spam put on as well as heading up the activities leading to the new Lawrence Tech Presidential Inauguration.  For the inauguration we will be having a Spirit rock delivered to campus to promote Greek Organizations as well as coordinating other events during the inauguration week in October.
Another large goal of ours is to get even stronger alumni relations.  We will be having monthly alumni meetings and any questions regarding those meetings may be directed to our First Counselor Brother Josh Gilbert at 248-515-1160.  Please also check the upcoming dates for events as we would love to invite you out to any events that alumni can attend.

Greek Day Trophy Comes Home
After a couple of close calls and hard losses, we were finally able to grasp the Greek Day Trophy.  April 2006 marked the first year that Zeta Omicron was able to take the trophy away from Phi Kappa Upsilon.  The Phi Kapps have had the trophy for a little less than 10 years and of course, we were happy to take it off their hands.  As sweet as this was, it did not come easy for our chapter.  The membership met many times to practice the various events and figure out our best options.  Many of our new guys came through and proved themselves very worthy.  Two of our new members, Ben Stephens and Jake Kurt tossed the kegs over 30 feet.  All the practice paid off because we were able to beat the Phi Kapps by 10 overall points.  This was a huge victory seeing as how they have beaten us by only one or two points in the past.  The celebration was held later on that night at the tent where we held our annual pig roast.  It was a great way to end the year.

Fall Rush '06

This year’s fall rush turned out to be another successful one with 35 guys deciding to pledge. We had the usual rush events such as laser tag with the Delta Taus, bowling with the Dephers, and go carting. Go carting turned out to be the most successful event with about 65 guys showing up. On the first weekend we went up to Oakland to visit the guys of Zeta Pi during their annual pig roast and then hosted our rush party with the O Rhos and Sig Eps behind north housing on Saturday. The second week went just as well as the first and ended with the Graffiti Party at the castle. Once again the alumni contributions were very appreciated keeping rush affordable for the chapter.

Fundraising

The key to any fraternity is money.  This summer we were fundraising at Comerica Park for the Detroit Tigers. We participated in 12 games and made around $6500.  We are also scheduled to work the playoffs and hopefully the World Series.  This money will help our chapter in many different ways and we are very excited for this opportunity.

This summer the brothers of Zeta Omicron Sigma Pi Went on our annual summer retreat.  We went to Brother Mike D’Alessandro’s grandmother’s cottage in Port Huron.  We had fun hanging out and enjoying the weather.  Mike brought some jet skis and almost everyone had fun on them.  We also enjoyed some good cooking on the grill.  Overall I thought it was a very successful retreat and everyone had fun that came.
